National Day of Sorrow and Promise

Purpose

The National Day of Sorrow and Promise offers a national response from Catholic Religious to recognise all who have been harmed from abuse in the Church and to make a commitment to a safer future. Naming the abuse, pain and suffering helps us to ensure that such abuse does not occur again. Through prayer, we open ourselves to the movement of the Holy Spirit amongst that pain and suffering.

Others, such as those in PJPs or dioceses, are welcome to participate.

When

Date:    Sunday 22 October 2023
Time:    5.00 to 6.00pm – One hour together, on one day, across the nation.

The Liturgy can be prayed at different times, depending on what suits your congregation.

Theme

This year’s theme is the gift of Grieving. Learning. Dreaming.

We continue to lament the past and affirm our need to grow and change. And we take heart that growth and change are happening.
