In a first for Australia, Majellan Media, a ministry of the Redemptorists, has partnered with the international Laudato Si’ Movement to inspire Catholic communities to tackle the ecological crisis and climate emergency.
Majellan Media CEO Tony Biviano hailed the partnership as a significant step forward in the campaign to highlight the climate threat facing countries worldwide.
“This is an exciting new development and one which Majellan Media is thrilled to be a principal partner in Australia,” said Mr Biviano. “Many people, especially in our region of the world are facing a dire situation with rising seas predicted to swamp their island homes in the near future.
“We all know there is an urgent need for the ecological sustainability and health of the planet so we want to show families and parish communities how we can play our part.”
Tomás Insua, Executive Director of Laudato Si’ Movement, also welcomed the partnership. “Laudato Si' Movement is so excited to be working with Majellan Media. Families play such an important role in the Church, and especially when it comes to hearing and responding to the cry of creation and the cry of the poor,” said Mr Insua.
“This important media partnership will help all families bring Laudato Si’ to life!”
The Laudato Si’ Movement is a global network of more than 800 organisations. Its mission is ‘To inspire and mobilise the Catholic community to care for our common home and achieve climate and ecological justice’.
In 2015 Pope Francis wrote and released the encyclical letter Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home, the first-ever papal encyclical devoted to the crisis facing our planet. Pope Francis has said that “we are at the edge” with climate change and the time for action is now.
Over the coming weeks Majellan will publish articles that highlight what can be done at a local level to save our planet. We have set up a special page on our website: www.majellan.media/laudato-si that includes practical information about what Laudato Si’ is calling all of us to do.
Majellan Media has also joined Catholic Earthcare Australia’s campaign to better protect the environment whereby organisations, parishes, schools and families are invited to monitor their ecological sustainability.
Majellan Media is a ministry of the Redemptorists. Majellan Media produces faith-based podcasts and media as well as The Majellan magazine, which has been in print for more than 70 years and aims to help families be the best that they can be.
