The Second Session of the Synod on Synodality will get underway on Wednesday, October 2, and as with the previous Session, Catholics everywhere are being encouraged to join the Synod in prayer.
The Second Session of the Synod Assembly will run from October 2 to October 27, and will once again include representation not only from bishops, but also lay people and Religious.
The Assembly will be preceded by two days of spiritual retreat, from September 30 to October 1.
The Synod Prayer is a simplified version of the Adsumus Sancte Spiritus, which was also prayed at every session of the Second Vatican Council.
The first word of the Latin original means, “We stand before You, Holy Spirit,” and the prayer has been historically used at Councils, Synods and other Church gatherings for hundreds of years, being attributed to Saint Isidore of Seville (c. 560 - 4 April 636).
“As we are called to embrace this synodal path of Synod 2021-2023, this prayer invites the Holy Spirit to work within us so that we may be a community and a people of grace,” the Synod’s organising committee said.
This information was taken from the Vatican’s Synod website, and the prayer can be downloaded here.
