Jubilee celebrations: Rome

In Rome: The 2025 Jubilee will officially open in Rome on 24 December 2024 at 7.00pm, with the rite of Opening of the Holy Door of the Papal Basilica of St Peter by Pope Francis, who will then preside over the celebration of the Night Mass of the Lord's Birth inside the Basilica.

Specifically, the Jubilee of Consecrated Life will be celebrated in Rome on 8 – 12 October 2025.

Jubilee celebrations: Australia

2 February 2025 - World Day for Consecrated Life

2 February is the date designated for national celebrations of the Jubilee Year for Consecrated Life which falls on the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. Special Masses for consecrated life are being celebrated as follows:

2 February 2025

  • In Adelaide Archdiocese, Mass has been celebrated across parishes with an opportunity to share stories about vocation and life as a consecrated person. Continue reading at The Southern Cross.

  • In Parramatta Diocese, A Mass was held at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Parramatta, celebrating the Religious Congregations who had served in the Diocese over the past 186 years. Read Bishop Vincent Long’s homily at Catholic Outlook.

  • In Sydney Archdiocese, a Mass for the Jubilee of Hope was celebrated at St Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney. Read Archbishop Anthony Fisher’s homily here.

  • CRA offers a simple, flexible outline for a prayer service suitable for a small community or household gathering, which could be used to mark the Jubilee for Consecrated Life.

6 February 2025

  • In the Diocese of Wollongong, the annual Mass for Religious was held at St Francis Xavier Cathedral Wollongong, followed by lunch.

9 February 2025

  • In Western Australia, Mass was celebrated at St Mary’s Cathedral, Perth. Download flyer. Read the report in The Record.

  • In the ACT, a Jubilee Mass for Consecrated Life was held at St Christopher’s Cathedral, Canberra. Read Archbishop Christopher Prowse’s homily here.

3 April 2025

  • In Sydney Archdiocese, a Mass for Consecrated Life will be held on Thursday 3 April at 11.00 am at St Mary’s Cathedral.

8 - 9 April 2025

  • In Port Pirie Diocese, Religious will share Mass and a meal with the Bishop on 7 April. The Jubilee for Consecrated Life will be celebrated during the Diocesan Annual Assembly on 8-9 April, concluding with the Chrism Mass.

9 October 2025

  • In Melbourne Archdiocese, a Mass for Consecrated Life will be held, details TBC.

Throughout the Jubilee Year

Events are being organised locally and this will continue to be updated as CRA receives information.

There are also Religious Congregations with Jubilee plans in place specific to their charism and story, including:

  • Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth: celebrating the Jubilee while also celebrating 150th anniversary since the foundation of their congregation.

  • Sisters of St Joseph: highlighting the pilgrimage aspect of Jubilee, with Mary of the Cross MacKillop as the focus and a series of six pilgrimages within Australia (see the congregation’s website).

  • Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart: In their efforts to encourage all to be alive, vibrant, active and spirited, the OLSH Sisters have written memorable stories about being an OLSH for a book they are producing. There is also a Video and a Virtual Pilgrimage and celebration for the Sisters being organised in the Jubilee Year.
